The Cincinnati Zoo Festival Of Lights

Tonight I was supposed to go to the Festival of Lights at The Cincinnati Zoo with one of my friends, but she had to back out. So, I invited Grammy Pammy to go with Casey and I.
On the way there, Pam asked Casey if he was going to go to the zoo and see lights. We laughed at how funny it sounded to say were were going to see lights and not animals. But, it turned out to be quite fortuitous. We only saw 4 different species of animals (flamingos, macaques, a goat, and elephants).
Of ALL the animals we saw, the elephants were the most interesting. Cincinnati has 4 elephants, 3 females and 1 male. They have recently re-introduced the male, Prince Schotzy, to one of the females, hoping that they will breed. Prince Schotzy was given to the Children of the City of Cincinnati by Marge Schott and was named after her adored St. Bernard, Schotzy. Prince Schotzy is truly a prince from a line of Royal elephants of Thailand. Marge purchased him from Denmark because they had too many elephants to care for. Whether you liked Marge's personal ways or politics, you have to admit that she knew how to make a grand gesture.
The goat was the second most interesting, as it tried to eat Casey's blanket. For some reason, he was the only animal we saw in the children's petting zoo?!
Pam and I had an overall good time. It was nice going with just the two of us (without the man folk). We didn't have to worry about the crowds, lines, frequent bathroom stops, etc. She and I have a natural rhythm and she is quickly able to pick up with Casey where I leave off. This is good, because we got a Family membership and will be spending lots of time there come Spring.
