I would like to think that I am cultivating a diverse and educational love of music in Casey. I would like to think that, but I'm not. Casey doesn't like music on the radio, cd, or ipod. He doesn't even seem to care about music on tv...unless it's a commercial. And here's where he started going astray.

Casey LOVES commercial jingles. He could be an entire research subject on the matter. No matter what he is doing he will stop and dance to certain jingles. Some of his favorites include

Ray Sinclair Roofing
Empire Carpet
and for you out of towners
Stanley Steamer

But, wait, this only get worse. He refuses to watch kids shows that have music and dancing. In fact, a couple of months ago we were watching the last few minutes of Live with Regis and Kelly. Laurie Berkner was on with her stirring children's classic Rocketship Run. Casey was totally uninterested. I guess the show ran late because it segued directly into the theme song for Ellen and mad dancing, smiling and laughing ensued.

And, the worst of all, is that Casey actually has a favorite tv theme song. It's shameful, not just for him but for me. He will run from anywhere in the house to listen to and watch the opening theme to...

GENERAL HOSPITAL!

I'm going to die and go to hell for being a bad mom. In my defense, the images on the screen flash quickly and really keep his attention. Hopefully in time he will develop a more sophisticated musical taste. One can only dream of him dancing to the Grey's Anatomy theme....

Not to worry. He actually seems to like music on CD's when he is at my house. And he seems to like the music to the Walton's and music in general on tv. Kids are always different when they are at other people's houses.
